Publication Process
Core Contribtions
Editorials and introductions to annual editions are contributed by the editorial board.
Research articles
The category «research articles» comprises empirical and theoretical-conceptual contributions. All research articles undergo double-blind peer review. Overall, topics should be discussed in as much detail as possible. In this sense, in addition to the double-blind peer review process currently carried out for contributions to the research article section, it is foreseen in the medium term to offer the option to authors to publish in an “open peer commentary” form.
- Maximum length: 15 template pages. Please note that you must use the template available here, paying attention to the instructions it contains, to submit your article.
- Submission and review process :
- Manuscripts may be submitted at any time.
- When an article successfully passes the review process (including revisions), it is published in citable form immediately after final editing.
- Published articles are combined in the second half of the year in an annual publication.
- High-quality manuscripts submitted on or before 31 January have a good chance of being published (after successfully completing the review process) in the same year’s annual edition of the journal. Manuscripts submitted later are likely to be published only in the following year’s edition.
Research forum
The «research forum» is designed to be a research instrument whereby contributions on selected fundamental questions and topics are solicited and discussions in various new experimental and developing formats are organised. The respective questions should not only be discussed among concerned scientists occupying maximally polarised positions. Instead, such discussions should also e.g. be further thought through and examined by teachers with their learners. Methods for individual and group-based consideration should not only be presented conceptually – various experiences should be included to e.g. open perspectives on their further development.
- Because all contributions for the research forum section are by invitation only, they are not to be uploaded using the submissions tool.
- The maximum length depends on the respective discussion format and will be determined during the article invitation process. Please note that you must use the template available here to submit your article.
- All manuscripts must be numbered using Arabic numerals – by paragraph if possible – to make referencing easier. The numbers must be placed in double-parentheses [e.g.: ((13))]. The editorial staff reserves the right to apply numbers to un-numbered manuscripts.
- The editorial staff reserves the right to return to authors any manuscripts that do not adhere to the formal requirements.
Research based practice
The category «research-based practice» seeks to focus on the practice of inter- and transdisciplinary instruction within school contexts and outside of them. Here, sound and well-thought-out teaching examples are sought, encompassing research-based discussions of teaching practice as well as experiences and evaluations of these. A text published in the “research-based practice” category must fulfil the following quality criteria: (1) the practical example relates to the current state of knowledge and research; (2) the inter- and transdisciplinary teaching application and/or the related lesson example is described precisely and understandably: (3) the text includes a discussion that indicates a connection to the theoretical-conceptual background of the teaching example and that contains a critical analysis of the intervention and its outcomes; (4) the text closes with a precise conclusion on the relevance and implication of the experiences for future research and/or teaching practice.

Reviews
Critical, constructive «reviews» are sought considering works that deal with inter- and transdisciplinary instruction. Reviews should summarise the strengths and weaknesses of the work and should clarify what can be drawn from them to benefit future research. Review articles are reviewed for approval by the editorial board.

Letters
Each category of publication may also contain «letters» with relevant content and e.g. advocate an opposing viewpoint or point out additional conceptual or practical considerations. Authors addressed in letters are given the opportunity to reply in good time. Letters and their responses are published together. Both are reviewed by the editorial board.
